Yesterday, while I was taking the practical exams for DILNet Helpdesk application, Ate Jevic teased Randal for crying after he watched “5 Centimeters per Second.” She also exclaimed that Kuya Gerry even cried when he watched it a year ago.

Something was weird. Did Kuya Gerry and Randal really cry?
I got curious about that anime, so after the exams, I started to google it. I got to watch it in YouTube, but it was in Japanese with English subtitles. Little did I know that there was an English dubbed version.
At the end of the movie, I didn’t cry at all. Maybe I wasn’t paying so much attention while watching it. I then wondered, “why the heck did the two boys cry?” That was when I decided to watch the English version to fully understand the story.
Throughout the film, I observed the following.
- The movie has a lot of metaphors.
- Its animation is more fantastic than that of Death Note.
- The story is very realistic. It’s about distance between two lovers. Only about 10 minutes of the film did the two lovers were shown together.
- It has beautiful and touching OST (I like “Distant Everyday Memories” most)
- The ending is so heartbreaking.
After watching the English version, I listened to the movie’s Original Soundtracks (”One More Time, One More Chance” // Piano). When “Distant Everyday Memories” was played, I started to feel the what Kuya Gerry and Randal might have felt. The OST’s fit perfectly for the movie.
I recommend “5 Centimeters per Second” to everyone.
