Sining 2010 Artwork

There has been a slack time on my blog. Perhaps this is due to my immersion into academic pressure. But then again, as other bachelor bloggers would say, I must pat this blog with a warm towel.

I’ll start off my blog’s new year by sharing my latest graphic design. It’s an advertisement for the event Sining 2010, prearranged by the University of the Philippines Aguman (UP Aguman), one of my organizations in college.

Through the looking glass, I’ll tell more about this creation as a graphic artist and advertisement conceptualizer.

Artist’s Interpretation

Notice the Sining 2010 logo with paint splatters of different colors. Minsky Goce, one of my greatest friends and the project head of the event, designed it one week prior to my conceptualization. Usually, I contemplate for one week just to come up with a decent design that, I guess, everyone would surely love. Furthermore, every time I make one, I make sure I offer something new.

I took inspiration from the vintage and pop art style of the contemporary times. While vintage is considered antiquated, it has been a trend these years to infuse old fashion in advertisements. After five hours of tireless photoshopping, I came up with the finish product.

So basically, according to the organization’s website, Sining has 13 events, or so I read. Instead of representing the latter as objects of the same number, I shrunk them into a few simple depictions of art – the electric guitar and microphone for music, the masked performer (later known as Lady GaGa) for the performing arts, the paintings of cityscape and camera for tangible and written arts.

It may be questioned why Kapampangan culture is not incorporated with the poster, considering that the theme suggests otherwise. But at the same time, the theme proposes a next level of artistry.

When we talk about “culture”, it comprises a complex whole of different behaviors, icons, attitudes and beliefs. It may be accepted that every region in the Philippines has a unique culture of its own but when we talk about “art” in general, it covers the entirety of the wide discipline. The usage of the icons you have used might not have justified “Kapampangan Culture” but they have justified the main concept of the poster itself–art.

    Good job!

Yeah, thanks. You know how much hard work I put on this creation, considering it was already my second revision.

    Anyway, better sleep now. :)
